Car removal Invercargill takes five simple steps: send us your vehicle details, get a cash quote, accept the offer, book a pickup, and get paid when we collect. We buy old, scrap, damaged and non-running cars, with free towing available.

That unwanted car is taking up space and may cost more to keep. Selling privately can mean listings, messages, missed appointments and price negotiations.

Tell us about your car, get a cash quote, and let us handle the pickup. With over 12 years of experience across Otago and Southland, this guide explains the process, what affects your car’s value, and what you need to know about NZTA.

How Car Removal Works from Start to Finish (Step By Step)

Vehicle details → Cash quote → You accept → We pick up → You get paid

Send us your vehicle details, and we will provide a cash quote. Once you accept, we arrange pickup and pay you when we collect the car. Same-day pickup may be available, depending on your location and our schedule.

Step 1: Give Us Your Car Details for a Cash Quote

Tell us the make, model, year, condition and location of your car. Let us know if it starts and drives, what is damaged, and whether any parts are missing. The more accurate the details, the more accurate we can make your cash quote.

Before you call, check:

Your location matters too. A car that is easy to access needs a different pickup setup from one behind a shed or sitting in a paddock.

A few clear photos can also help us assess the car faster and give you a more accurate quote.

Step 2: See What Your Car Is Worth

Once we know what you have, we can work out a cash quote. The offer mainly depends on parts value, make and model, vehicle weight, condition and how complete the car is.

Reusable parts matter. A complete Toyota, Nissan, Mazda or Subaru with useful engines, gearboxes, doors, panels or other components can be worth more because those parts may be suitable for our used car parts range.

Make and model matter too. Vehicles with parts that are easier to reuse can have stronger value than models with limited local demand.

Vehicle weight can also affect the value. Utes, vans and 4WDs contain more recoverable metal than many smaller cars.

Condition and completeness matter. Heavy rust, fire or flood damage, missing parts and major mechanical problems can reduce the offer. Being upfront about these issues helps us give you a more accurate quote from the start.

That is why two cars of the same age can have very different values.

Step 3: Check the Offer Before You Accept

Once you receive your cash quote, make sure you understand exactly what is included before saying yes.

Ask us:

We keep the process clear. Towing is free, payment is made when we collect the vehicle, and we help with the NZTA side of the sale. If the car is significantly different from what you described, we will discuss it with you before collection.

There is no pressure to accept. If the offer works for you, we move to pickup.

Step 4: Book Your Free Car Pickup

Once you accept the offer, give us the pickup address and a suitable time. We cover Invercargill and surrounding Southland areas, including Waikiwi, Newfield, Rosedale, Georgetown, Hargest, Otatara, Appleby, Bluff, Winton, Riverton, Wallacetown, Makarewa, Woodlands and Gore.

Before we arrive, tell us two things:

Giving us these details before pickup helps us bring the right equipment and avoid delays.

There is no towing charge. We do not add a fuel surcharge or surprise access fee at pickup. The price we agree with you is the amount you receive, provided the vehicle matches the details you gave us.

Step 5: Hand Over Your Car and Get Paid

Before we collect the car, give it one proper check. Look through the boot, glovebox, under the seats, door pockets, centre console and other storage areas for anything you want to keep.

Also check for:

If you want to keep an aftermarket item or part, tell us before pickup because it may affect the agreed offer.

Once we arrive, we confirm the vehicle matches the details you provided, pay you, and load the car for removal. You get paid when we collect the vehicle, so you are not left waiting for payment after it reaches the yard.

Can You Sell a Car Without WOF or Rego?

Yes, you can sell an unwanted car without a current WOF or rego. We regularly deal with vehicles in this condition, including cars that have failed a WOF or are no longer roadworthy.

The important part is handling the NZTA side correctly. When you sell or dispose of the vehicle, you should notify NZTA that the vehicle has been sold. This helps keep the vehicle transaction record up to date.

When a vehicle is sold to a wrecker, NZTA states that the wrecker is responsible for cancelling the registration, although the seller can also do this themselves.

If you want more detail, see our guides on how to cancel car registration in NZ and how to get rid of an old car in NZ.

If your car has no WOF, no rego or has failed its WOF, tell us when requesting your quote. That way, we know the vehicle’s actual condition before arranging pickup.

What Happens to Your Car After Collection?

Car Removal Invercargill process showing a vehicle being collected for recycling and parts recovery

Your car does not simply disappear after we collect it. We take it through a process designed to recover useful parts and materials.

First, we inspect the vehicle. We look for usable engines, gearboxes, alternators, starters, radiators, ECUs, doors, panels, lights, mirrors, wheels, tyres and interior parts.

Next, the vehicle is dismantled. Fluids and other components are handled through the appropriate processes, while batteries and tyres can be separated for recycling.

Good parts can then be tested and reused. This gives drivers another option when they need replacement parts for older vehicles. Materials that cannot be reused can be recovered for recycling.

You can learn more about the process on our auto recycling in Otago page.
